Compounded medications are prepared by licensed 503A compounding pharmacies in accordance with applicable state and federal law. Oral ED medications include tablets, capsules, and orally dissolving tablets (ODTs) taken by mouth. These medications may be either compounded or FDA-approved, depending on your provider’s prescription. Compounded formulations are prepared by licensed U.S. compounding pharmacies and are not FDA-approved. FDA-approved options are dispensed when clinically appropriate. Orally dissolving tablets (ODTs): Placed under or on the tongue and dissolve without the need for water. Tablets: Pills that are swallowed whole with water. Capsules: Pills that are swallowed whole with water.
When prescribed and used as directed, oral erectile dysfunction medications typically take effect within 30 - 60 minutes after ingestion. Results vary by patient.
